Assessment Requirements Portfolio of Evidence, Practical Examination, Coursework 

This qualification is internally assessed and internally quality assured by Centre staff and externally quality assured by Innovate Awarding External Quality Advisors (EQAs).

Aims and Objectives of the Qualification

Provides the skills and knowledge necessary for Learners to enter the health and fitness industry as gym instructors. It must be completed before progressing to personal training qualifications. It is recognised by the UK Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) and provides entry to the Register at Level 2. It has been developed to reflect modern practices in teaching exercise and fitness.

Entry Guidance

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. This qualification is suitable for those who work within the Sport, Leisure and Recreation sector.

Progression Opportunities

Learners will be qualified to work in any health club chain or fitness centre. Progression could be to further training or education including work based qualifications in areas such as leisure and facilities. On completion of this qualification, Learners may progress to:

  • Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning 

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Instructing Exercise and Fitness 

  • Level 3 Award in Adapting Exercise for Older Adults 

  • Level 3 Award in Adapting Exercise for Ante and Post Natal Participants 

  • Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training
